Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer Reportedly Omitted from Afghanistan T20I Squad due to Disciplinary Reasons

Before being omitted from the T20I series against Afghanistan, Ishan Kishan withdrew from participating in two Tests against South Africa, citing personal reasons. Concurrently, Shreyas Iyer faced significant challenges during the series, managing only 41 runs across four innings. In a recent development, a Bengali newspaper reported that Ishan and Shreyas were dropped from the Afghanistan T20Is due to disciplinary issues.

As per a report from the Bengali newspaper Anandabazar Patrika, the selectors expressed discontent with Ishan Kishan's actions. Despite being initially included in the squad for the Test Series against South Africa, Kishan withdrew from the series citing personal reasons and returned home. However, the selection committee was surprised to observe Kishan later in Dubai, participating in social activities with MS Dhoni and even featuring in a well-known TV quiz show. The report suggests that the selectors are displeased to the extent that Kishan's involvement in the T20 World Cup might be jeopardized.

In contrast, selectors expressed considerable frustration with Shreyas Iyer's suboptimal shot choices in the Test Series against South Africa. Following his return from the tour, there was a strong inclination for him to participate in the Ranji Trophy representing Mumbai immediately. However, the right-handed batsman requested a temporary break, a decision that reportedly displeased the selectors. Consequently, he found himself excluded from the Afghanistan series, as per the reports. Nevertheless, in a recent development, Shreyas Iyer has committed to joining the Mumbai squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Andhra Pradesh scheduled to commence on January 12.

?In the latest update, it has been revealed that the selection committee, under the leadership of Ajit Agarkar, is taking a firm stance against players who do not prioritize Test and first-class cricket. The committee is determined to address this issue decisively. Conversely, they have expressed admiration for the dedication and hard work demonstrated by Rinku Singh and Shubman Gill.

According to the report, Rinku Singh's impressive efforts may soon earn him an opportunity in Test Cricket. The committee seems to be considering his strong commitment and performance as noteworthy factors that could contribute to his inclusion in the Test squad.
